Hindu Temple Heritage Restoration in Pakistan

Pakistan houses significant Hindu/Shahi architectural heritage — most notably the Katas Raj temple complex (Punjab), Sri Krishna Mandir (Lahore), and Salt Range temples. Hindu Shahi architecture conservation requires specialized stone masonry expertise.

Pakistan's Hindu Architectural Heritage

Pakistan houses remarkable Hindu temple architecture spanning multiple periods — from Hindu Shahi era (8th-12th CE) through later periods. The most significant complex is Katas Raj (Chakwal district, Punjab) — an ensemble of seven temples, a sacred pond, and surrounding havelis representing a Hindu pilgrimage center over a millennium old.

The Punjab government and Department of Archaeology have funded restoration efforts. The Sri Krishna Mandir in Lahore received 20 million PKR for restoration completed 2020. Multiple smaller temple sites across Salt Range, Tharparkar, and other regions also need preservation.
